New Rules Proposed to Improve EHI Interoperability

The Department of Health and Human Services is proposing new rules that it says will improve the interoperability of Electonic Health Information and, in doing so, "make no-cost health data exchange a reality for millions." The devil, as they say, is in the details. We wecome a robust discuss here on the NIC Hub of the content of the proposal, its potential and its challenges.

  • There will also be a proposed rule coming that requires electronic prescribing of controlled substances for Part D beneficiaries.  I'm surprised this currently available tool isn't included in the playbook.

    • When this rule is adopted and implemented it is likely to have a very positive impact on our ability to combat the opioid crisis, and we will  want to include evidence of such impact in the playbook.  The initial release of the playbook was targeted at strategies that have been tested and for which such evidence is already available and documented with examples.
