Welcome to the Pew’s Civil Justice Technology Project

This group focuses on a new initiative by the Pew Charitable Trusts to make the nation’s civil justice system more efficient, affordable and accessible. To achieve those goals, Pew and NIC are partnering to identify emerging/innovative technologies and practices with experts across human services, healthcare, public safety and IT – all of which already use advanced technologies. Once identified, Pew will conduct tests around the U.S. in the coming years to determine what works best. Ultimately, the objective of this work is to implement tools and approaches that level the legal playing field for millions of people for whom the courts are too often an impediment – rather than an opportunity – for achieving justice.

We were delighted by the level of engagement and enthusiasm during the call. Even more encouraging was (and is) the interest that participants are showing for NIC’s civil court-improvement project, with support from the Pew Charitable Trusts. If you haven’t yet signed up for one of the three focus groups we’ll be holding to inform this important effort, you can do so by filling out this form. • Here are a few webinars coming up that discuss legal proceedings during a pandemic. The one on September 24 looks like it may cover tools/technologies that could help the courts. Plus, there are links to recordings of past webinars: https://www.ncsc.org/newsroom/public-health-emergency/webinars

  • I want to thank all 100+ people who participated in last Friday's webinar introducing our project to improve civil court with innovative technology. We are looking forward to a robust dialogue and informative focus group discussions about how to improve this vital part of the nation's safety net infrastucture.  I encourage you to sign up for one of the the focus groups using this form.
