From Research to Reality: What we Know (and Don't) about the Social Determinants presentation focused on how the influence of social conditions on human health has been known since time immemorial. This knowledge/insight, for example, inspired hygiene campaigns and progressive social policies way before we started talking about social determinants of health and well-being (or SDOH) toward the end of the 20th Century. The session explored current research on and understanding of SDOH, which still focuses on fundamental questions such as the impact of socio-economic and structural factors, but which is increasingly concerned with the formulation of concrete goals and the attainment of real, sustainable outcomes at the community and policy levels. Presenters included: Karen Smith, David, Rehkopf, and Pierre-Gerlier Forest.
