Dr. Nonaka is a physician and researcher educated and trained both in Japan and the U.S. He completed his post-doctoral fellowship at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla. He founded the La Jolla Institute for Immunology in 1988, where he raised the largest single funding in Southern California’s basic biomedical research history in the 1980s. Today, the Institute has over 490 employees and is one of the top immunology research organizations in the U.S.
