I recently retired from a career working with Government and Non-profit Health and Human Services organizations across federal, state, local levels. I also have lived experience, my family was touched by several HHS and non-profit organizations over the course of my childhood. I gratefully acknowledge the value of those services, along with our school supports and those of other agencies. At the time there was an informal, collaborative network of conversations and referrals that kept our family safe and stable. Those highly collaborative relationships ensured that my siblings and I didn’t fall through “program cracks”, and enabled some of our family to break away from our childhood environment. I’ve leveraged my experience with Government Health and Human Services (GHHS) clients in order to help progress services models, processes and the systems needed to better enable their work . My nature is to listen, analyze social and program issues, and collaboratively create innovative solutions. GHHS program regulations are complex, at times conflicting. Processes and systems can be error prone, leading to poor outcomes and compliance issues, and missing risk indicators. I am continuing what I consider to be my life’s work with colleagues such as yourselves, to be a part of the solution. My career is proof that (even informally delivered) collaborative services can successfully modify life trajectories of children, families and individuals. I now have the opportunity to pay it forward.
