Stephanie Areizaga is a Project Coordinator in the Programs division of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, specializing in projects to enhance law enforcement response to gender-based violence. Prior to joining the IACP, Ms. Areizaga served as a Philanthropy Fellow with the Montgomery County Collaboration Council for Children, Youth and Families, and as a graduate assistant to University of Maryland’s Do Good Institute, doing both while earning her master’s degree. During her fellowship, Ms. Areizaga acted as a contract monitor for Creating Healthy Bonds, a program dedicated to alleviating the effects parental incarceration has on the family unit. Through her graduate program, Ms. Areizaga acted as a student consultant for the SAFE Center, a holistic service provider for survivors of human trafficking, using best practice research to provide recommendations for crisis invention. Additionally, Ms. Areizaga completed graduate coursework abroad in Peru where she studied the country’s experience with sex and labor trafficking within the illegal gold mining market in the Amazon. At the start of her career in the criminal justice field, Ms. Areizaga interned with case management at the Maryland Correctional Institute for Women (MCIW), and then interned with the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland’s Beyond Bars Program, coordinating a troop for daughters of incarcerated women, which met at MCIW twice a month for troop meetings. Ms. Areizaga holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Towson University in Towson, MD and a Master of Public Policy from University of Maryland in College Park, MD.
