Public libraries provide their communities with credible, accurate and accurate information, and programs and services. Through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, OCLC and the Public Library Association (PLA) have conducted research into how public libraries are supporting their communities through the opioid crisis, and how libraries are partnering with organizations to meet local needs.
OCLC and PLA put together a summary report that highlights varying opioid response programs and services provided by eight different public libraries across the United States. What they found is that these public libraries, with their community partners, are providing much needed programs, services, trainings, and supporting opioid prevention and recovery efforts. Additionally, OCLC and PLA created a call to action to help public libraries generate ideas on how they can engage in opioid response.
