How do we all get on the same page to manage abuse and ensure those that need medications aren't harmed?

  • Drug Overdose Deaths Drop in U.S. for First Time Since 1990

overdoses are down for the first time, a lot of this has to do with PDMPs and overdsoe reversal drugs.

HOWEVER, there is a rise of meth across the country.

If it is not opioids, it will be something else.

where are ther roots of management, abuse, acute pain, chronic pain, trauma etc etc being addressed?

A decline in deaths from opioid painkillers was a major factor, but deaths from fentanyl overdoses and some other drugs continued to rise.
    • Some providers I talk with link NAS or neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS) to the complexity of the problem.  It may occur when a pregnant woman uses drugs such as opioids during pregnancy. A recent national study showed a fivefold increase in the incidence of NAS/NOWS between 2004 and 2014, from 1.5 cases per 1,000 hospital births to 8.0 cases per 1,000 hospital births. That is one baby born with NAS/NOWS every 15 minutes in the United States.  Could this be linked to teen opiod or meth drug use?  So many questions.
