Pradeep Podila is a CDC - Public Health Informatics Fellow (PHIFP) in the Obesity Prevention and Control Branch in the Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity (DNPAO). As a CDC fellow at Denver Health, he is leading pilot efforts of Childhood Obesity Data Initiative (CODI), a multisector project that aims to facilitate access to integrated healthcare, and weight management programs/community data to expand patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) data capacity in Denver, CO as a scalable national model. His research focuses on common data models (CDMs) and building data capacity for cross-sector record linkages (patient/client matching) in distributed data networks (DDNs) towards developing longitudinal patient records for comparative effectiveness research. He has over 12+ years of combined experience in Systems Support and EHR based Health/Research Data Analytics. Prior to joining the fellowship, he worked for over 7-1/2 years as a Decision Support Data Specialist-II/Data Governor (Care Variation Reduction efforts) in Process Improvement & Innovation and Patient Safety & Quality at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare (MLH), Memphis, TN. In this position, he was responsible for managing, modifying, and maintaining a comprehensive utilization and quality database; developing, generating, publishing and distributing quality and utilization reports, analyzing data for trends and improvement opportunities. He also acted as a consultant regarding clinical data solutions and performance metric reporting; and was the primary point of contact for designing EHR based research studies- coordinating data and research for individuals/physician groups within the organization and with research partners across the community towards reducing the gap in healthcare disparities, and gaining a better understanding of the high-utilizing patient population. He has volunteered as an Adjunct Professor in the Division of Health Systems Management and Policy (HSMP) in the School of Public Health at the University of Memphis from 2015 – 2018 teaching Managerial Epidemiology, Health Policy and Organization of Health Services, and Seminars on Healthcare Data Analytics to Master of Health Administration students. In 2013, he led a team that won 3rd place among 60+ teams in the 7th National SAS Analytics Shootout Competition conducted by SAS, Teradata and the Institute for Health and Business Insight (IHBI) in the Herbert H. & Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions at the Central Michigan University (CMU). He received Masters Degrees in Electrical/Biomedical Engineering and Healthcare Administration; and PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Memphis. He received his Six Sigma Black Belt certification from the Memphis Lean Six Sigma Institute (MLSSI). He is a fellow of ACHE, and HFMA, and a member of HIMSS, and NAHQ. In Dec 2019, he received an invitation to serve as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Healthcare Quality (JHQ) by NAHQ, and was appointed as a board member to the serve on the NAHQ’s Education Commission for 2020.
